App Permissions Explained
SentryRF requires certain permissions to function. Here's exactly why each is needed:
| Permission | Why It's Needed |
|---|---|
| Location | Android requires location permission to scan WiFi/Bluetooth. Also used to map where devices are detected. Your location is never transmitted. |
| Background Location | Allows continuous scanning while the app runs in the background, so you're protected even when not actively using the app. |
| WiFi | Required to scan for and identify nearby WiFi devices and networks. |
| Bluetooth | Required to scan for nearby Bluetooth and BLE devices, including common trackers. |
| Notifications | Allows the app to alert you when suspicious devices are detected. |
| Internet | Only used to download map tiles from OpenStreetMap. No personal data is ever transmitted. |
Data Storage & Security
Local Storage
All data is stored in a secure SQLite database within the app's private directory on your device. This storage is:
- Protected by Android's app sandboxing—other apps cannot access it
- Encrypted on devices with encryption enabled
- Completely under your control
Data Retention
- Default retention: 30 days
- Configurable: 1 to 365 days in Settings
- Automatic cleanup: Old data is deleted automatically
- Manual deletion: Clear all data anytime from Settings
- Uninstall: Removes all app data completely
Third-Party Services
OpenStreetMap
SentryRF displays maps using OpenStreetMap. When you view the map:
- Map image tiles are downloaded from OSM servers
- Only geographic coordinates of your map view are sent (to fetch the right tiles)
- No personal information or device detection data is shared
See: OpenStreetMap Privacy Policy
No Other Third Parties
SentryRF does not integrate with:
- Google Analytics, Firebase, or any analytics service
- Any advertising networks
- Crash reporting services
- Social media platforms
- Any other third-party data collectors
